Acrylic nails are an easy and classy way to make your nails look beautiful. People can choose them to help conceal nails that are damaged, short or have an “undesirable” appearance . They can also help towards preventing any breakage you may have, spits or nail biting, which is a huge benefit . However, even if your natural nails are in good health, some people just prefer more length and shape added, not to mention a longer lasting manicure . But in short if you are not able to grow much length in your nails, they are the perfect and attractive solution .
What are acrylic nails ?
In basic terms without going into too much detail, acrylic nails are a combo of liquid monomer and powder polymer which is applied like a bond onto your nails, then shaped to however you desire . The clever thing about them is that the product hardens as it is exposed to air, so it does not have to be cured by a lamp . The mixture creates a hard protective layer over your natural nails, that becomes transparent so colours, patterns and art can be applied on to the nails .
How often should you get acrylic nails done ?
Unfortunately, acrylic nails are of higher maintenance compared to say your standard gels . In-fills are required every 2-3 weeks to avoid the nail beginning to lift or becoming prone to breaking, (in-fills are essentially to treat the acrylic regrowth towards the base of the nails, so any lifting is removed and the exposed natural nail is covered with fresh acrylic) . Any damage or breakage in the acrylics if infills avoided for too long can mean your technician hat to remove them and start from scratch, which is worse for your natural nails in the long run .
